Going into the All-Star break, Ubaldo Jimenez and David Price were dazzling, making hitters look like fools and dominating the competition in the respective leagues. Jimenez tossed a no-hitter earlier in the season and Price has showing he definitely was worth leaving in the rotation after decent 2009 season. Jimenez is a 5-star fantasy pitcher and is sure to keep your team in the mix. His 15 wins and 2.20 ERA are lead the National League He can help you in at least four fantasy categories, wins, strikeouts, ERA and quality starts and that makes him my top pitching prospect in the Rotation Rundown.
Rotation Rundown mentions the best bet pitching matchups for the week.
1. Ubaldo Jimenez-SF- (15-1, 2.20 ERA) goes into his first start post All-Star on Monday against the Florida Marlins and Anibal Sanchez. The Marlins fired their manager early in the season, so they are still looking for their rhythm. Ubaldo will look to start his second half off better than he ended the first. Despite leaving us puzzled in his last 4 starts getting pounded for 18 earned runs and 22 base hits, he should be able to rebound quickly and he gets two starts next week.
2. Zack Greinke- KC- (5-8, 3.71 ERA) had fantasy owners holding their breath after being scratched from his final start before the break. Team doctors said there should be no worries and neither should fantasy owners. Zack isn’t going to repeat his superb season from last year but he should keep his ERA low and K rate high. He’ll get the start Friday night against the A’s whom he has owned over the course of his career.
3. Roy Halladay- (10-7 2.19 ERA) faces the Chicago Cubs on Sunday in the final game of the series. Doc has been the picture of health through the first half. Batters have constant whiffed at his pitches and he has truly lived up to the expectations of being a staff ace. Expect much of the same from the Phillies number one, the question is will the Phils bats come alive.
4. Felix Hernandez- (7-5, 2.88 ERA) has the Halos on tap for his next start Friday night. King Felix has been a show stopper over his last 3 starts. He’s especially strong against teams in his division. Not to mention 2 of his last three starts have accounted for two masterful performances against the New York Yankees. The Angels lineup is not one to sleep on but they do have some holes and definitely not as strong as the Yankees. Felix will continue to dominate despite a lackluster lineup and the Cliff Lee trade will make him more depended upon but shouldn’t keep him from top 5 fantasy pitcher
5. Stephen Strasburg - (3-2, 2.32 ERA) is the rookie phenom who has taken the league by storm. Despite missing the All-Star team. Fantasy owners who drafted Strasburg sure are getting their money’s worth. He has been stellar to begin his Major League career. After winning his first two decisions and striking out 22 over 11.1 innings of work, Strasburg continued to keep batters off balance by effectively using his off speed pitches. The Marlins have him Friday night and Jimenez on Monday. Seems like a good week if your one of those two pitchers but a bad few days for the bats in Florida. Look for Strasburg to be on an innings count but still will be a top 10-15 fantasy pitcher the rest of the way.
On Monday, The Kind Nine will be on display to help you set your fantasy lineup card for next week.
