Phantasy Phix: At the Break

Welcome to the Phantasy Phix…I’m Ira Luke aka Luke Legend and I will be hosting this column and keeping you abreast of the weeks that go by in fantasy baseball. I have been playing for the past 10 years and have carefully constructed seven league champions. Getting your Phantasy Phix will get YOU in the game, whether it is rotisserie or head to head matchups.
Each week, I will help your team become a fantasy baseball champion. I will break down the top nine at each position in both leagues going into the week, the Rotation Rundown which will feature 5 must-starts in your league. If you don’t want the same lame advice from the other man, try the brother, man and I can lead us to fantasy goodness.
After one half of the season has been completed, teams are probably figuring out whom to place on the trading block and have even sent out a few trade proposals looking to upgrade their team. With players like Mark Teixeira and Prince Fielder getting off to their usual slow starts, owners may have cause for concern at the moment.  With the weather heating up players like Texy and Prince get in gear in the second half usually propelling their teams to the Fantasy Playoffs. If you can find an owner willing to give you one of them for two role players then pounce, QUICKLY!
You can’t get through the first half of the season without your fair share of injuries. Personally, I just saw one of my unbeaten teams through 11 weeks get beat because of being hit by the injury bug. Another team saw seasons end by Jake Peavy and Shin- Soo Choo within days of each other. With big names like Utley, Pedroia and Manny Ramirez, Bedard and Tulowitzki on the DL heading into All- Star weekend, it leaves many teams scowering the waiver wire to find a suitable replacement for their stars.  Rookie sensation Jason Heyward along with slugging outfielder Ryan Ludwick should return shortly after the break while Utley and Pedroia will be sidelined until at least August to give your teams that boost for the playoffs. Don’t go giving away your whole team because of a few injuries unless you are completely throwing in the towel. There’s plenty of fantasy baseball left.
Later this week, I’ll break down the pitching in the Rotation Rundown and the The Kind Nine, which will name 9 must- starts for the coming week. Do not sleep on your waiver wire over the next few days as players will be coming off the DL as early as Thursday so get ready to plug and play.
