Apter Hours...Orioles 4, Phillies 3...Kendrick sailing along...

Kyle Kendrick continued to show why he should be the number five starter but the Phillies bats could not back up his performance as they fell to the Orioles 4-3. This puts the Phils at 5-4-1 this spring.

Pitching...Kyle Kendrick took the hill today with five scoreless innings and kept his hot streak going. Double K gave up only two hits in four innings of work to stretch his scoreless streak this spring, to nine innings. Even though Rich Dubee named Jamie Moyer to be the favorite for the final spot in the rotation, Kendrick has shown no lack of focus whatsoever. Sergio Escalona was the Phillies break point today...he surrendered three runs in only one inning. Andrew Carpenter gave up one more in his three innings but he did also strike out five. So, not a bad outing by Carpenter, but Kendrick stole the spotlight.

Batting...J-Roll hit a single and a double in today's game and scored a run on an RBI single by Chase Utley (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1K). Placido Polanco got two hits on the day while Victorino tallied one hit in his three at bats. The Phils got their other runs via RBI's by Dan Sardinha and Brian Bocock. On another note, after tearing it up early in the spring Dom Brown has hit a slump and went from hitting .528 to .350. Hopefully he starts to get some more hits...his potential is still great and I look forward to seeing how his career pans out.

BOX

So another great showing from Kyle Kendrick but a weak day for Phillies hitters for the most part. It looks as if J-Roll is starting to pick up some positive hits for a lead-off guy...getting singles and doubles rather than swinging for the fences and not taking pitches.

Up next...Doc Halladay will take the hill to try and get his third win this spring against the Tigers tomorrow at 1:05. Jamie Moyer will pitch in a 'B' game against the Blue Jays at 10am.
