Apter's All-Star Countdown: #4 NFL Pro Bowl

Out of the four major sports, the NFL has the most pathetic attempt at an all-star game out of all of them. Not only do the players not try but putting it before the week of the Super Bowl means that some of the best can't even play in the game. I find a few big things to be wrong here.

One thing wrong with this game is the timing. I know the NFL cannot make this a midseason event like most all-star events because of the NFL schedule and things being complicated with that. The game was in Miami this year instead of Hawaii, which kind of bothered me but I will get to that later. There is really no good time to have this game. If it is held the week prior to the Super Bowl, the players in the big game will not be able to participate. This year, that made a big difference. If Manning, Brees and the other players on those two teams that were chosen would have played, it could have been a completely different result. Romo would not have thrown that interception because he would not have replaced Brees. Having the game the week after the Super Bowl will elimate mostly all interest in the game, if there was any to begin with. If you ask me the week after is the way to go because then all of the players voted in will be able to play and it could be in Hawaii. For some players who look for the getaway to Honalulu for the game, that isn't right to have it where NFL games are played all year.

Secondly, there is nothing on the line here. I do not really know much you can put on the line in the Pro Bowl but players do not even try. Watching a football game where a love tap is considered a tackle is a waste of time. If you are going to have something like this, make it a two hand touch game or a flag game because there is not much difference from what I saw this year. Defensicve linemen letting the quarterback get away and cornerbacks slow on coverage. If you ask me, it is an overall crapshow.

Lastly, I actually did not know there were skill competitions at the Pro Bowl so I will have to see them first before I make any judgement on whether or not this game should even be played. As of now, I believe that the Pro Bowl is a complete waste of time for football fans even thought the players may have fun. If there is nothing on the line/nothing to play for, no one is going to try and win or care in the end. Sure, you get a nice check that is better than the losing team but clearly that has not been enough for players to actually put effort into the game. If it were me, I would not even bother televising this joke for a game but then again there are far worse things on TV that I question.

The #3 game in Apter's All Star Countdown will be revealed next week!
